Topics to discuss include:
- Schedule and topics of the debates.
- Many of our listeners are skeptical. They're not "debates" at all. Everything is highly scripted and stilted.
- Respond to "Kerry's behind in the poles, the debates are his only chance".
- Last time (2000), there was no critical analysis of what was said in the debate in the press. They let pass a lot of nonsense. See Paul Krugman's column today.
CBS has announced that it is shelving a 60 Minutes segment devoted to uncovering the fraudulent means by which the Bush administration sold the Iraq War to the American people. Perversely, CBS describes the decision as "We now believe it would be inappropriate to air the report so close to the presidential election." What sort of nonsense is this? When is "now"? And if this news item isn't relevant to the election, then no news item is. Call or write to CBS to insist that this segment be shown, now!
Former Left Out guest Karen Kwiatkowski discusses a recent article by a reservist NCO in Iraq explaining "Why We Cannot Win" in Iraq. The response? "The military chain of command is considering charging Al with violation of Article 134 for making a statement with the intent to promote disloyalty or disaffection toward the U.S. by any member of the Armed forces." What else would you expect from an administration of liars?
Democratic Party Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards conducted a town hall-style meeting on campus this morning. Edwards electrified the audience with crisp presentation of his and John Kerry's positions on foreign policy, and took questions for about one hour.
We've recently come across Conceptual Guerilla, a web site devoted to strategy and tactics for battling the right. Akin to Thomas Frank on steroids, CG calls Dubya and his ilk "Cheap Labor Conservatives" whose main goal is to impose an economic class structure that subjugates workers for the benefit of the wealthy.
According to Electoral Vote Predictor 2004 Bush is leading Kerry in the electoral vote by 317 to 207 votes.
